Setting up a Spam Filter.
The following shows you how to setup rules
in outlook to delete messages that we mark as SPAM. If your
email is hosted by Strobe, we are using a spam filtering
program called Spam Assassin to assess all incoming email.
It will identify spam emails and tags them with *****SPAM*****
in the subject line therefore making it easier for you to
set up a filter in your email program to isolate and delete
these messages.
The following is how to set up this up
in Outlook 2000 & XP
- Go to the Tools menu and choose Rules Wizard
- Click “New”
- Make sure “Start from blank rule” is selected
- Select "Check messages when they arrive"
and click Next
- Tick "with specific words in the subject"
- Click on "specific words" in the Rule description
window
- Type in *****SPAM***** and click Add, then click OK
- Under "What do you want to do with the message?",
tick "move it to the specified folder"
- Click on "specified" in the Rule description
window
- Now assign it to a folder or create a separate ”Spam”
folder, once you have done this click OK
- Click Finish and you are done
This will cause any email marked as spam to be saved to
a special folder when you check your mail, and so it will
not appear in your Inbox. You can then check this folder
for any legitimate email that has been accidentally identified
as spam before deleting.
If you don’t use Outlook 2000 and
XP click
here for instructions for other email programs.
Disclaimer: The way that Spam Assassin
works it that it uses a wide range of advanced heuristic
and statistical analysis tests on mail headers and body
text to identify "spam". This system, like everything
man made, is fallible so it is recommended moving these
emails marked as spam to a folder, rather than deleting
it, where you will be able to go through these emails at
your leisure to find any emails that may have been marked
as spam by mistake. |

This website contains links to some of the worst websites,

We took the Super 12; maybe we can take the Bledisloe Cup?

Here are some interesting new words to add to your vocabulary.
All these words came about with the advent of the Internet;
test how many you already know.
* Spam: Is a slang name for unsolicited
commercial email
* Brochureware: Corporate Web sites that
offer no real value.
* Dot-bomb: A play on the term dot-com,
it refers to a bad idea, a failed business venture, or April
